DELE (Diploma de Español como Lengua Extranjera)
What are the DELE exams?
They are internationally recognised awards. Our students take these exams for many different reasons: the personal challenge of getting a Spanish qualification, to put on their CVs, etc.
What recognition do the DELE exams have?
These are the world's leading range of Certificates for learners of Spanish. They are designed and developed by the Instituto Cervantes and recognised by the Spanish Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport ( Ministerio de Educación, Cultura y Deporte). The University of Salamanca collaborates with the Cervamtes Institute in the assessment and development of the exams.
How many levels are there?
There are 3 levels: INICIAL, INTERMEDIO and SUPERIOR. In Spain the exams can be taken 3 times a year (May, August and November) but you can also take the exams in your own country. All 3 levels are linked to the Common European Framework of Reference for languages, published by the Council of Europe. DELE exams are also available for young learners.
What level of Spanish do I need to have?
Each level centres on the 4 main skills: speaking, listening, reading and writing.
The DELE INICIAL requires basic level of written and spoken Spanish.
The DELE INTERMEDIO requires you to have a wide grasp of Spanish vocabulary and grammar and
be able to use language appropriately to communicatie in a a variety of situations.
The DELE SUPERIOR requires a standard of Spanish approaching that of a native speaker.
What is the exam like?
Each exam has the following parts :
- Reading Comprehension
- Writing
- Listening Comprehension
- Grammar
- Vocabulary
- Speaking Test
Is it worth it?
We always encourage our students to take a DELE exam but especially if they are going to need Spanish for work and study purposes.
How do I register?
If you are taking a course at The Lewis School you can register for the exam at the school reception desk. You can also go to one of the Instituto Cervantes recognised centres in Spain or abroad to register.
